I saw Lara Hogan of Etsy give her inspiring Designing for Performance talk at An Event Apart in D.C. last month. It was packed with great advice about how to measure your website’s performance, set a performance budget, chop down the data-gobbling tendencies of your pages, and get others in your organization to realize how important it is to create pages that load quickly. So good. Getting more out of fewer http requests and downloaded megabytes appeals to this industrial & systems engineer.
I finally followed the note-to-self I had written to check out the performance section of Lara’s site. You’ll find her presentation slides, links to optimization tools, how-to’s, more data and studies, and:
A video of her talk at the Generate Conference.
Print or electronic versions of her book for sale at O’Reilly.
She believes so strongly in spreading the gospel about website performance that her whole book is available for free in HTML at designingforperformance.com. Whatever I do, I need to think about it more like that.
