George Harrison & Dick Cavett
I urge everyone to rent Disc 3 of The Dick Cavett Show: Rock Icons (DVD). The standout, from what I’ve seen so far, is the 1971 George Harrison interview. Til now I had no idea how well-spoken and generally peaceful “the quiet Beatle” was. Combine his thoughtful, genuine responses with Dick Cavett’s mostly thoughtful and genuine questions, and you have deep, meaningful TV. No-one on television today besides Charlie Rose gives his guests the space and time to stretch out and get into a real conversation. It makes all other “talk shows” feel shallow and hopelessly hurried by comparison. Thank goodness these tapes were preserved and re-released for those of us who were late to the party.
